A Library in Need

Built in 1967

Not ADA compliant

Inoperable Elevator = Loss of Public Space: The long-term failure of the elevator removes the lower level from public use and eliminates potential meeting and program space.

Bathroom Location Conflicts –Adult restrooms are only accessible by passing through the children’s area. This creates congestion, disrupts programs, and becomes especially problematic during large events.

Lack of Dedicated Program Space – The library does not have a sound-isolated program room on the main floor. Storytimes and programs occur in open public areas, displacing other users and increasing noise conflicts.

Noise Transmission – Minimal acoustic separation allows sound to carry easily. Children’s activities, teen use, staff conversations, and computer use regularly compete in shared space

Teen Use and Space Mismatch – There is a large after-school teen population, but the teen area is small and poorly located. Teens frequently overflow to other areas and cause tension.
