The Reference Department of the Holbrook Public Library provides patrons access to a wide variety of materials and services to help satisfy any information or library-related needs. The print collection consists of dictionaries, general and specialized encyclopedias, and other print material which cover a wide range of subjects.

Utilizing our subscriptions, you have access to magazine and newspaper articles, ebooks, music, and other general reference sources. All you need is your library card; your library barcode is your patron ID number. If you have not changed your PIN, it is “ocln.”

Reference Programming


Through Ask-a-Librarian, Holbrook Public Library offers patrons one-on-one assistance from a librarian in the areas of library resources, mobile devices, technology questions, research techniques, social networking, reading suggestions, and more.

Copying & Computer Services

Computer and copying resources are available in the library include 12 computers with Internet access, a printer, a copier with scanning capabilities, free wi-fi, and built-in outlets for charging your electronic devices for your convenience. There is a charge of 15 cents/per page to print black and white copies and 35 cents/per page to print color copies. We do not offer fax services.

Inter-Library Loans

Physical copies of items that are not available through our OCLN Enterprise Catalog may be requested from other library networks in Massachusetts through the Commonwealth Catalog.

You can search the Commonwealth Catalog on your own and make requests with your valid Massachusetts library card.  Reference staff can also help you search and request titles. If an item Reference staff can also help find and request materials from outside the state through Massachusetts Library System Inter-Library Loan, and you can check the availability of titles worldwide through WorldCat.


A microfilm machine is available in the Reference Room. Ask for help with emailing printing, or saving images to a flash drive. Available microfilm includes the Canton Citizen, Canton Journal, some Canton vital records, back issues of some magazines etc. You may bring in your own microfilm to view and print.  We can locate local obituaries for you if you can provide an approximate date.
